Chapter 7: Fugacity Applications
Fugacity in a soda.
One big problem for the soda industry is the shell life for carbonated drinks, because they have to maintain certain CO2 concentration during a certain period of time. In order to maintain this concentration within the established limits and to avoid the CO2 outflow, a hermetic container is needed.
How can this problem be solved?
With the fugacity concepts and formulas it is possible to calculate the escaping tendency of CO2. By predicting this escaping pressure, engineers can develop a bottle with materials that slow down the loss of CO2.
